EVOC and Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jointly Establish Innovation Laboratory
Shenzhen SEZ Daily News (Reporter Zhou Yuanchun)The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has taken new steps in industry-academia collaboration in the field of artificial intelligence. On May 13, Regem Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and unveiled a Joint Innovation Laboratory for AI Terminal Technologies.
According to the cooperation plan, over the next three years, Regem Group and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University will jointly explore innovative applications integrating smart industrial technologies with cutting-edge technologies (such as virtual reality, augmented reality, human-machine interface interaction, metaverse, and large language models). They will also establish cooperative intentions in smart industry, smart transportation, and intelligent park-related fields. Leveraging PolyU's advanced research capabilities and Regem's engineering implementation strengths, the collaboration will deepen integration across the innovation chain—from "key technology research to industrial synergy to achievement transformation. Together, they will research key technologies like lightweight large models and industrial AI interaction, develop industrial AI terminal products, jointly organize academic activities, promote knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary cooperation in smart industry and cutting-edge technologies, and build an innovation hub for industrial AI development.
"We hope the laboratory can capitalize on Hong Kong's role as an international gateway and Shenzhen's large-scale, high-tech manufacturing industrial chain to become a leader in industrial intelligent terminal technology and application innovation in the Greater Bay Area. Through Shenzhen-Hong Kong collaboration, we aim to respond to the national innovation-driven strategy, set a benchmark for industry-academia synergy in the GBA, and serve the global科技竞争格局 (technology competition landscape)," said Lin Shimei, Executive Vice President of Regem Group.
Currently, Shenzhen is accelerating the development of AI innovation. The "Shenzhen Action Plan for Advancing AI Terminal Industry Development (2025-2026)" proposes that by 2026, the core competitiveness of the AI terminal industry will be further enhanced, the "depth" of products further improved, and the industrial ecosystem continuously enriched, with the city's AI terminal industry scale reaching over 800 billion yuan and striving for 1 trillion yuan.
It is reported that since 1993, Regem Group has been committed to the R&D of industrial intelligent terminal products. With over 30 years of industry expertise, it has achieved multiple breakthroughs in industrial control, possessing full-chain R&D capabilities for industrial intelligent terminals—from hardware design and embedded system development to scenario-based applications—with large-scale implementation in over 30 core sectors of the national economy. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as a world-class research university, holds significant advantages in technological innovation, achievement transformation, and international talent cultivation, particularly in AI, large models, and mobile XR (Extended Reality), where it has achieved many internationally leading results. The deep collaboration between the two parties in industry-academia research is expected to generate a synergistic effect (1+1>2), driving high-quality development of the AI terminal industry in the Greater Bay Area and nationwide.
